The great war was a battle between Bolara, the god of law and justice, and Xynthexia, the entity of chaos. Their meeting was prefaced by countless ages of battle, leaving the races of the world exhausted of resources, and depleting them of their own lives at a rate that could not be sustained. Recognizing the cost their war was having upon the world, Bolara challenged Xynthexia to a final showdown, between himself and all of his followers against all of those forces of chaos.
However Xynthexia was not willing to give Bolara his fair fight. Allying itself with Frshnxtln, the goddess of death, Xynthexia brought what it thought was an unstoppable fight to Bolara. So began the battle for the fate of the world.
Bolara held his own until Frshnxtln entered the fray, bringing all of the fallen back to double the strength of the forces of evil. Seeing his imminent defeat, Bolara knew there was only one thing to do. Channeling all of his power he set off a blast that obliterated friend and foe alike. The power behind his attack destroyed everything on the battlefield and chained into a wave of devastation that tore the continent apart. So great was the power behind his blast that it separated Brittania from the mainland, and allowed the sea to fill the space between this old and new continent.
After the battle Bolara and Xynthexia retreated from interfering in the world, and the other gods, seeing the devastation that could be wrought by their power, vowed to leave the governance of mortals to themselves.

On Brittania, this meant that humans thrived. Their ability to quickly reproduce allowed them to spread and claim much of the fertile land that is necessary to maintain a thriving human population. The dwarves, who up until the war were mainly forest dwelling creatures, were cast out by the elves who held far superior arcane magic to the Dwarves. Defeated, the Dwarves took up residence in the mountains of the land, and still hold a grudge to this day.
Most of the negative entities of the evil and chaos god were obliterated in the war, so much of Brittania is peace beyond the occasional dire bear or gelatinous cube. This is made more so by the Brittanian militia, who is tasked with maintaining peace across the entire continent. Service is through volunteer work, but the esteem which comes with it ensures that it is not just fighters who make up the military, though they do make up a large portion. Enough time served grants land and titles, as a lord is expected to defend his citizens in order to ensure his own ease of living.
The humans of Brittania are ruled by a King, who resides in his castle in the capital city. The Elves reside in a floating city above the southern forests, and the Dwarves reside in either the western or northern mountains.
More to come as necessary.
